Scorpion plays his own game while his opponents try to play theirs. Examples: Cassie Cage “digital soldier”, Noob Raiden, Sub Zero “thin ice”, Jade “emerald defender”, Skarlet, Erron Black, Cetrion, Shang Tsung.Ħ. Zoners can also fit into the neutral/footsies category but this depends on how the individual plays them. While they have options up close, their up close options are typically not the most damaging, safe or fast. Zoner Zoners have an Arsenal of projectiles to keep their opponent at bay. Examples: Jacqui Briggs ”Next Gen” variation, Kano “Dirtbag” variation, Erron Black, Kollector, Dvorah, Kotal Kahn, Frost.ĥ. They usually have some kind of special move or several special moves to achieve this. Set-Up Set up characters‘ main objective is to get their tools (traps, damage over time, etc) onto the screen in order to dominate the match and force the opponent into playing defensively. Examples: Johnny Cage, Cassie Cage, Noob, Sub Zero, Kabal, Kitana, Kung Lao, Jade, Skarlet, Kotal Kahn, Kollector, Frost, Raiden, Shao Kahn.Ĥ. ![]() They are also extremely mobile on the screen. They can hang up close and at full screen but aren’t as optimal as they are in the neutral and their options aren’t as good/readily available up close or far away as their mid ranged attacks. Neutral/Footsies These characters have an arsenal of ranged and/or forward advancing attacks and do their best at the range where they can move back and forth from their opponents furthest attacks but just in range of their own furthest attacks to gauge their opponent and essentially counter-play them. Examples: Jax, Kano, Geras, Kollector, Kotal Kahn, Erron Black.ģ. Grapplers can fit into other categories but stand out due to the aforementioned style. Grappler Grapplers typically have a fighting style that relies on throwing, command grabs/tic throws, and short but damaging combos. Examples: Jax, Sonya, Jacqui, Geras, Baraka, Liu Kang.Ģ. They tend to have short ranged attacks with typically one projectile and/or forward advancing special move to help them in their rush-down plan. The pressure comes from wanting them out of your face. ![]() ![]() Rushdown characters are the MOST effective when they’re in your face.
